First edition published by the National Portrait Gallery, London in 2010 to accompany a major exhibition dedicated to the portraits of Irving Penn,held at the NPG,London from 18.02 until 6.06.2010 Square hardcover, full grey cloth over boards with a black and white photographic reproduction  » Saul Steinberg in Nose Mask, New York, 1966″ affixed to debossed panel on front . Title printed in black on cover and spine. No dust jacket as issued, includes the loose single-sheet back cover insert which is often missing.

80 p. with 30 full page monochrome plates , beautifully printed by Meridian Printing, Rhode Island. Photographs are drawn from across seven decades, from the celebrated  » Portrait Series 1947_48  » to an arresting image of Jasper john captured in 2006.
