The Antwerp-based photographer Jan Kempenaers undertook a laborious trek through the Balkans to photograph a series of mysterious objects.
These « Spomeniks » ( monuments commemorating the Second World War ) were built in the rugged, mountainous region of the former Yugoslavia.
They are built of indestructible materials like reinforced concrete, steel and granite.
